This figure shows the notification rates of infectious syphilis in persons aged 15 years and over, in Australia from 2009 to 2014, by age group and sex and year. In males, the figure shows a wide variation in rates across age groups. In males, there was an overall decline in notification rates for most age groups between 2009 and 2010, after which rates increased in most age groups through 2010 to 2014. In females, rates did not vary as noticeably across age groups. In females the highest rates of the reporting period were seen in the 15-19 year age group however in general for females compared to males, rates remained low across all age groups.
