Viruses monitored are as follows: influenza A, influenza B, respiratory syncytial virus, parainfluenza virus type 1, 2 and 3, adenovirus, rhinovirus, metapneumovirus, Mycoplasma pneumonaie, and pertussis. Data are presented as proportion positivity of all swabs tested. Influenza positivity peaks occurred during the interseasonal period during week 12 (week ending 27/3/2016). This represents a small sample of tests undertaken during this period. Rhinovirus was the most commonly detected respiratory virus (9.4% of all tests performed) peaking in weeks 22 and 26 with 9 cases detected. RSV was the second most commonly detected respiratory virus (8.1% of all tests performed) peaking in week 24 with 7 cases detected. Influenza B was the third most commonly detected virus with 5.2% of all specimens tested being positive for influenza B. Influenza B cases peaked in weeks 12 and 17 with 4 cases detected. Influenza A is the fourth most common respiratory virus representing 4.9% of all specimens tested. It peaked in weeks 22 and 24 with 4 cases detected.
