Figure 2 is a line graph depicting the temporal change in the rate of post-mortem examinations of suspected TSE case deaths, by year (1993-2013) and NSW, QLD, SA, VIC and WA). These five states have been chosen for comparison on the basis of population size. There is significant over-lapping variability in the post-mortem rate for each state over the timeframe, however, the overall trend with the exception of SA, is positive. This trend is attributed to increased awareness of CJD. In 2012, rates declined in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia but was most substantial in Western Australia, where a decreased since 2010 has been evident. In contrast, Queensland post-mortem rates had been increasing from 2005 to 2012, until the autopsy service was suspended in January 2013.
