Line graph demonstrates the rates for ILI by week of report and year, from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016, that shows a seasonal trend that is associated with ILI in the southern hemisphere. The 2016 flu season peaked in week 33 at 17.6 ILI notifications per 1,000 consultations. Average ILI rates for the fourth quarter of 2016 were slightly higher than the previous year (3.3 ILI notifications per 1,000 consultations in 2016 compared to 2.9 ILI notifications per 1,000 consultations in 2015). At the end of the reporting period (week 52) 2016, ILI rates were below baseline and showing an decreasing trend at 2.0 ILI cases per 1,000 consultations, slightly higher than seen at the same time in 2015.
