This figure shows the trend of notifications received by the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System from 1991 to 2014. The figure demonstrates a gradual increase over time from 43,719 notifications in 1991 to 159,266 notifications in 2008. In 2009 notifications peaked at 238,401 decreased slightly in 2010 to 211,124 and peaked again in 2011 and 2012 with 239,611 and 245,610 notifications respectively. In 2013 notifications decreased by 8 per cent compared to 2012 which until 2014 had the highest year total of notifications since 1991. In 2014 notifications increased by 22 per cent to 275,581 compared to 2013.
