Figure 6 shows the notification rate per 100,000 population for shigellosis in Australia in 2011, by age and sex. Males and females follow a distinctively different pattern for age notifications for shigellosis. Notification rates were higher for females in all age groups younger than 30 and notification rates are higher for males in all age groups from 30 and above. Notification rates were highest for both sexes in the 0-4 age group (6.4 per 100,000 for males and 7.5 per 100,000 for females).
