Figure 8 shows the place of acquisition for hepatitis A cases in Australia by year of diagnosis (2006-2011). Notifications peaked in 2009 with 358 locally acquired infections, 80 overseas acquired infections and 124 infections where the place of acquisition was unknown. A sharp decline in notifications occurred in 2010 and a historical low in 2011. This was predominantly due to a decrease in locally acquired infections by two thirds and a decrease to zero unknown cases.
