MBS Review Taskforce interim report

The Taskforce discussed the draft interim report, which will provide an update to the Minister for Health on the work of the Taskforce and Clinical Committees. The main objectives of the interim report are to provide the case for change to the MBS, outline the Review methodology and processes that have been put in place, and highlight the preliminary results from the consultations.

Members also agreed to the establishment of a consumer subcommittee to foster input and engagement from consumers.

Obsolete items for public consultation

The Taskforce noted that 23 MBS items were identified by the Clinical Committees as obsolete—that is, items or services which have no clinical purpose in contemporary practice, services which are better covered under other items, or items which are no longer used for the purpose for which they were introduced.

Members noted that the recommendations on obsolete items from the Clinical Committees have been released for the purpose of seeking the views of stakeholders. The consultation document is available on the MBS Review website until early February 2016. The website link is:
