Hospital Casemix Protocol: CheckIt

It is a requirement of the National Health Act for private hospitals to provide Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP) data to a registered private health insurance organisation which has an applicable benefits agreement with the patient, as well as to a private hospitals data bureau (PHDB).

Check-It 2 discontinuation

Check-It 2 software is not supported and it must be discontinued. This means that no further updates of Check-It 2 software are being published on the Department’s website.

From early August 2020, HCP (hospital to insurer) validation will be implemented in the department’s Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) for 2020-21 data onwards. It is envisaged that PHDB and HCP1 external data submitters will be able to provide HCP data files to the EDW for validation at that time. The existing validation process for PHDB, HCP1, HCP2 and GT-Dental collections will be unaffected.

Background

It is a requirement of the Private Health Insurance Act for declared private hospitals to provided Hospital Casemix Protocol (HCP) information to Private Health Insurers and Private Hospital Data Bureau (PHDB) information to the Department. Under the Act, registered insurers must provide HCP information to the Department.

The Department has developed an application (Check-It 2) to assist insurers and hospitals meet their HCP and PHDB reporting obligations. Check-It 2 will validate HCP and PHDB files and report whether they comply with the published specifications.
The benefits of using Check-It 2 include;
  • Immediate feedback on the compliance of your HCP/PHDB files, which will allow you to submit correct data the first time.
  • Provision of detailed reporting features that help to investigate data errors that are flagged.
  • The software is kept up to date with the latest HCP/PHDB specifications.
  • The software is provided free of charge.
