PHI - 21/16 - Amendments to February 2016 Prostheses List

24 March 2016

The delegate of the Minister for Health has revoked and remade the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules, including the February 2016 Prostheses List.

The Prostheses Secretariat was advised of a number of errors and anomalies in the February 2016 Prostheses List, necessitating revoking and remaking the Rules.

Most of the errors stem from technical issues relating to the implementation of the new Prostheses List Management System.

The Department continues to work on the technical issues and thanks sponsors of medical devices for their quick response to the request to check their listings on the Prostheses List.

The delegate made the Private Health Insurance (Prostheses) Rules 2016 (No. 2) on Wednesday 23 March 2016 and it is expected that the Rules will be registered on the Federal Register of Legislation (FRL) on 24 March 2016. If the Rules are registered as expected, they will commence on 25 March 2016.

If the Rules are not registered on the FRL on 24 March 2016, they will commence immediately after they are registered.

If you have any queries or concerns about this matter, please email the Prostheses mailbox at prostheses@health.gov.au.
