PHI 59/16 - Private health insurers’ second tier default benefit rates annual audit (PDF 89 KB)

Private health insurers are reminded that annual lists of un-audited Second Tier Default Benefit rates, from 1 September 2016 to 31 August 2017, are due to the Department of Health by
31 August 2016.

The audited rates, along with a statement from the auditor stating that the rates have been calculated in accordance with Schedule 5 of the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Rules 2011, are due to the Department by 30 September 2016.

This requirement is contained in Part 6 of the Administrative Arrangements For The Second Tier Default Benefits For Overnight And Day Only Treatment and is designed to facilitate the operation of Schedule 5 of the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Rules 2011 made under item 3A of the table in section 333-20 of the Private Health Insurance Act 2007.

In order to reduce the amount of paper used to meet this requirement, it is preferred that both the un-audited and the audited rates (along with the statement from the auditor), be emailed to Second Tier.

If an electronic version is not available, a hardcopy of the second tier listing should be printed, double-sided if possible, and posted to:

Private Health Insurance Branch
Department of Health
MDP 853
GPO Box 9848
Canberra ACT 2601
