On 1 July 2017, the Nursing Home Type Patient (NHTP) minimum benefit for South Australia was scheduled in the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Amendment Rules 2017 (No. 5) at a rate of $116.00. However, the South Australian Department of Health and Ageing gazetted their NHTP contribution rate increase from $116.00 to $118.00 to be effective from 1 July 2017. The Department did not reflect this revised rate in the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Rules 2011 until 7 July 2017.

The Department would encourage private health insurers to be aware of this issue and in good faith honour the increase in the South Australian NHTP contribution rate of $118.00, with effect from 1 July 2017. The Department apologises for any inconvenience this has created.

Refer to the Private Health Insurance (Benefit Requirements) Amendment Rules 2017 (No.6)stating the correct NHTP contribution rate for South Australia.
