Private Health Insurance (Registration) Amendment Rules 2012

Purpose

The purpose of this Circular is to inform stakeholders of an amendment to the Private Health Insurance (Registration) Rules 2009 (No. 2). The Private Health Insurance (Registration) Amendment Rules 2012 (the Amendment Rules) were registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments on 29 May 2012 and commenced on 30 May 2012 (F2012L01103).

Amendment to Item 13

The Amendment Rules expand the restricted access group for the Doctors’ Health Fund at Item 13 of the Schedule to the Rules, to align its membership base with Avant Group Holdings Limited. This is a consequence of the acquisition of the Doctors’ Health Fund by Avant Group Holdings Limited.

The restricted access group will now include: people who are or were at any time ‘health practitioners’ (including radiographers, optometrists, dentists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and psychologists); a person studying to become a health practitioner; and officers or employees of Avant Insurance Ltd or Avant Law Pty Ltd.
