2013 Premium Round
This circular, issued by the Private Health Insurance Branch, contains information relating to the timetable for the 2013 Premium Round.

The Department is issuing a timetable for the 2013 Premium Round in order to assist insurers with compiling their applications.
Details of what is required from insurers planning a premium increase in the 2013 premium round will be sent by the Private Health Insurance Administration Council (PHIAC), as set out in the Schedule and Guide, and will be issued by PHIAC shortly. The information required will be the same as for the 2012 premium round. No additional information is being sought.
Timetable for the 2013 Premium Round:
|Submission of applications from insurers||19 November 2012|
|Assessment of applications by PHIAC, Australian Government Actuary (where necessary) and the Minister for Health||20 November – 13 December 2012|
|Last Date for Resubmission request to insurers||14 December 2012|
|Resubmissions due||21 January 2013|
|Assessment of resubmissions||22 January – 5 February 2013|
|Insurers formally notified of approval||By 7 February 2013|
|Public announcement of Minister’s decision||8 February 2013|
|Insurers commence notification of members of premium changes||8 February 2013|
|Premium changes take effect||1 April 2013|
Consultation sessions will be held with the private health insurance industry in the period before submissions are due to ensure that there is an understanding of this new approach. This consultation will be led by PHIAC with support from the Department. Further details regarding venue, time and registration will be provided by PHIAC shortly. Tentative dates for the consultation sessions are as follows:
- 26th October 2012 – Melbourne
- 31st October 2012 – Sydney
- 1st November 2012 – Brisbane
