The Review of Australian Government Rebate on Private Health Insurance for Natural Therapies

Purpose

The purpose of this Circular is to inform stakeholders of a delay in the Review of the Australian Government rebate on Private Health Insurance for natural therapies and announce a revised date of 1 April 2015 for the implementation of the Review .

Background

The Review of the Australian Government rebate on Private Health Insurance (the rebate) for natural therapies (the review) was announced in the 2012-13 Budget.

The reviews implementation date will move from 1 January 2014 to 1 April 2015, the date where the premium changes come into effect.

The Review’s purpose is to ensure that taxpayer funds paid through the rebate to subsidise natural therapies are underpinned by a credible evidence base that demonstrates their clinical efficacy, cost effectiveness and safety and quality.
