Nursing Workforce Sustainability - Improving Nurse Retention and Productivity report

The Nursing Workforce Sustainability: Improving Nurse Retention and Productivity report (the report) identifies opportunities for nationally co-ordinated actions that address education, immigration and service delivery models to generate improvement in the retention of nurses in the profession, and boost productivity.

The actions are based on three (3) key themes to build on existing reforms and innovations in both the public and private sectors and encourage greater diffusion of innovation in the workplace. The three themes are:

  • Leadership - build workplace capacity;
  • Retention - early career preparation and workplace support, and
  • Productivity - enable innovation in the workplace.

The report recommends approaches to address the risk of the nursing shortfall projected in Health Workforce 2025 and Australia’s Future Health Workforce – Nurses.
