This figure shows malaria notifications by month, year and place of acquisition, whether Australia, or one of the most commonly reported countries of acquisition (India, Sudan, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, Kenya), other countries/regions, or country unknown/not supplied. The figure demonstrates the decreasing notifications of malaria over the time period, as well as improving completeness of the place of acquisition field. Importations from Papua New Guinea continue to form a substantial proportion of cases, being 53 of the 417 cases in 2012-13 with a known country of acquisition.
