Figure 3.16.1 is a line graph that shows the number of hospitalisations per month for varicella (chickenpox) fell in 2008 relative to the previous 2 years and remained low over the remainder of the 4-year reporting period with less seasonal fluctuation in hospitalisations per month. Monthly hospital admissions for herpes zoster (shingles) rose steadily over the 4-year reporting period, continuing an increasing trend in the number of zoster hospitalisations observed since 1993.
