The National Breastfeeding Helpline sits within a policy context that recognises the value of breastfeeding to improved health and wellbeing outcomes for infants and mothers. The Breastfeeding Helpline contributes to the mix of services to improve breastfeeding practice in Australia consistent with evidence for collaborative action provided by professional, lay and peer support. Methods employed in this evaluation of the Breastfeeding Helpline were designed to assess performance of the service against its aims focusing on access, quality and awareness.
