Coronary angiography involves local anaesthetic of either the femoral, brachial or radial area and insertion of catheters via a puncture to inject dye selectively into the coronary arteries, along with an injection of contrast into the left ventricle to assess left ventricular function, and measurement of haemodynamic pressures.Coronary angioplasty and stenting is done during coronary angiography and involves balloon dilatation and often stent implant of coronary artery blockages to relieve the effects of myocardial ischaemia and improve symptoms and prognosis.
