Application Detail
Description of Medical Service
Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry (REMS) is a non-invasive ultrasound method for evaluation of bone mineral density (BMD) at the lumbar vertebrae L1-L4 (lower spine) and the femoral neck (upper thigh bone connecting to the hip joint). REMS is used to diagnose osteoporosis, providing the standard parameters used in diagnosis such as BMD, T-score and Z-score.Description of Medical Condition
Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become thin, weak and fragile, such that even a minor bump or accident can cause a broken bone (minimal trauma fracture). Examples of such events might include falling out of a bed or chair, or tripping and falling while walking. Osteopenia is a condition when bone mineral density is lower than normal but not low enough to be classified as osteoporosis. Fractures due to osteoporosis can result in chronic pain, disability, loss of independence and premature death.Reason for Application
