Communicable Diseases Intelligence (CDI) is a quarterly publication of the Communicable Disease and Surveillance Branch, Office of Health Protection, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. It aims to provide information about communicable diseases in Australia to inform and assist those with responsibility for communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings.

Issues published in 2011 include four quarterly reports.

Summary of issues for 2011

Issue 1 - March 2011 an annual report on surveillance of antibiotic resistance in Neisseria gonorrhoeae in the WHO Western Pacific and South East Asia Regions, plus articles on an influenza outbreak among pilgrims; adverse events following immunisation; and improving surveillance for acute hepatitis C, as well as the regular quarterly data reports. This report also includes an obituary for Associate Professor John Tapsall. It also highlights future changes for CDI.

Issue 2 - June 2011 annual reports on surveillance of Australia's national notifiable diseases; immunisation coverage; Creutztfeldt-Jakob disease and bacteriologically confirmed cases of tuberculosis, plus articles on norovirus in aged care facilities; latent tuberculosis infection diagnosis by interferon-gamma release assay remote from testing facilities; chronic disease and hospitalisation for pandemic (H1N1) 2009 influenza in Indigenous and non-Indigenous Western Australians; Respiratory syncytial virus; using HIV notification data to identify priority migrant groups for HIV prevention; HPV vaccination coverage data for Australian women aged 18–26 years; and Salmonella Typhimurium phage type 44 infection among attendees of a wedding reception, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 3 - September 2011 annual reports on meningococcal and gonococcal surveillance, the Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit and antimicrobial susceptibility to Staphylococcus aureus, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 4 - December 2011 annual reports on flutracking surveillance, adverse events following immunisation and rotavirus; short reports on the Victorian adverse events following immunisation surveilance program and campylobacter in chicken livers, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.
