Communicable Diseases Intelligence (CDI) is a quarterly publication of the Surveillance Branch, Office of Health Protection, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing. It aims to provide information about communicable diseases in Australia to inform and assist those with responsibility for communicable disease control in a wide variety of settings.

Issues published in 2008 include four quarterly reports.

Summary of issues for 2008

Issue 1 - March 2008 contains annual reports on tuberculosis, pneumococcal disease, gonococcal in the Western Pacific Region and mosquito-borne diseases, plus articles on influenza, chlamydia, rotavirus, norovirus and vaccination for human papilloma virus and pertussis, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 2 - June 2008 contains annual reports on Australia's national notifiable diseases, gonococcal disease, influenza and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, plus articles on tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae, hepatitis C, Barmah Forest virus serology, impact of an influenza pandemic on school closures and an update on 7cpcv vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Supplement - June 2008 Vaccine Preventable Diseases and Vaccination Coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People, Australia, 2003 to 2006. This is the second report on vaccination coverage in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and is prepared by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance of Vaccine Preventable Diseases on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Issue 3 - September 2008 contains annual reports on meningococcal disease and polio, plus articles on Haemophilus influenzae type b, enteric diseases in returning travellers who visit friends and relatives overseas and an evaluation of the Australian Rotavirus Surveillance Program, as well as the regular quarterly data reports.

Issue 4 - December 2008 contains annual reports on adverse events following immunisation, trachoma surveillance, OzFoodNet, rotavirus and Australian Paediatric Surveillance Unit, plus articles on pertusiss in infants, influenza immunisation of doctors, excess mortality due to influenza in New South Wales, short reports on an outbreaks of Clostridium perfringens and Salmonella as well as the regular quarterly data reports.
